We grew up using Aveda products and learned at an early age that everything we use has an impact on the environment. Aveda has been a leader of environmental responsibility and very influential in the way we regard nature and do business.

When we opened the salon in 2013, we knew we wanted to bring that philosophy to our products and practices and inspire people to look at hair care differently. It has been rewarding to see the shift in industry standards as consumers are choosing beauty products, companies, and salons, that are eco-friendly, natural, and sustainable.

Aveda has been a guide for us to be mindful of the products we choose and the journey they take before in our hands, and to do business through the pursuit of environmental sustainability. Listed below are a few examples of how we do sustainable hair care and how we give back to the community.

Natural Ingredients: Natural ingredients are better for your health, provide nourishing nutrients for your hair, and have a lower impact on pollution. All of the products we use – from hair color to shampoo – are vegan, cruelty-free, and up to 97% naturally derived, from pure flower and plant essences, non-petroleum minerals, or water, using the ISO standard. Many of the products contain ingredients that are certified organic and all are formulated without parabens, phthalates, and sodium laurel sulfates.

Responsible Manufacturing: Minnesota is the home of Aveda’s primary manufacturing facility where our products are made with 100% wind power through renewable energy credits and carbon offsets. Aveda also funds renewable wind energy to offset the CO2 associated with the manufacturing, transportation, and use of its hair sprays to help ensure it has a net-zero impact on the Earth’s climate.

Responsible Packaging: Aveda strives to minimize packaging as much as possible and they are the first beauty company to use 100% post-consumer recycled PET packaging.

Responsible Sourcing: Botanical ingredient traceability helps track and ensure ingredient quality and responsible sourcing practices throughout the supply chain. Aveda uses this transparency to help drive environmental and social improvements.

Carbon Offsets: Aveda’s carbon-neutral shipping program offsets 100% of the carbon emissions from US home deliveries of online orders.

Recycling Program: To encourage all customers to recycle their empty product containers, we have a program at the salon where they can recycle through us and receive 10% off their next purchase.

Give Back to the Community: To celebrate Earth Day each year, we participate in Aveda’s efforts to raise money for clean water. For Earth Day 2021, we created a fundraiser for the Lake Elmo Park Reserve to spread awareness for nature and conservation in our community. We chose the Lake Elmo Park Reserve because 80% of the park’s acreage is set aside for preservation and protection of nature and wildlife. It also provides a beautiful backdrop for outdoor activities that people of all ages and interests can enjoy. We have since expanded to donating to all Washington County Parks in an effort to contribute to trail planning and enhancement, nature based programs for youth, milkweed for monarchs, and reforestation efforts throughout the parks.

When it comes to making a positive impact on our planet, we continue to learn and make choices as a business for progress and improvement in our sustainable efforts. From hair color to local parks, we strive to inspire small changes for a ripple effect on the environment around us and the community we work and live in.

Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.
